My name is Jenia Czapiewska Terrasa and I am a midwife and operating room nurse.
After my training, I worked at the Elisabeth Hospital Rheydt in Mönchengladbach until the birth of our daughter, including as head midwife.
After I moved to Mallorca with our daughter and my husband, I worked in the gynaecological practice until our Sonh was born here. After a long break, I continued working in the gynaecological practice as a midwife and in the hospital as a surgical nurse.
A midwife can offer the full range of standard prenatal care for a normal pregnancy, as offered by a gynaecologist, apart from ultrasound examinations. This is common in Spain for patients who are treated by IB Salut.
In practice I offer a birth preparation course with usually 6 meetings, which serve to prepare you physically, mentally and/or psychologically for the birth and to inform you about everything important.
Contents birth preparation course:
- Movement Exercises
- Correct breathing technique during birth
- Relaxation exercises and partner massages
- course of pregnancy
- Information on different delivery techniques
- Möglichkeiten der Schmerzlinderung bei der Geburt, z.B. Periduralanästhesie (PDA)
- Breastfeeding
- Infant Care
- Visit to the delivery room and the maternity ward
- Pelvic floor training
The main goal of birth preparation is to reduce the fear of giving birth. This is intended to counteract the tension that can arise from fear of pain and uncertainty. Today we know that cramping and anxious listening can lead to an increased perception of pain. Of course, giving birth is not a walk in the park and is always associated with pain. However, if the woman is prepared for this mentally and also by learning relaxation and breathing techniques, in most cases these can be tolerated better.
The courses are recommended from the 27th week of pregnancy. They are all women’s courses, but there will be at least one partner evening where the expectant fathers will also be prepared for the procedures during the birth, as more and more fathers are present at the birth.
How and where is the best way to give birth in Mallorca?
Very often I get this question from pregnant women. How will I be looked after in Mallorca? Where is the best place for me to give birth? Which possibilities I have ? Is a natural birth possible ?
